And there he goes, perhaps everyone's favorite punching bag for corrupt politicians, Rod Blagojevich, to the Big House. Maybe. We all know different rules apply to white collar crimes. He's always had that deer caught in the headlights look for me. And then tries to weasel his way out of being caught red handed. And so we all look forward, waiting that maybe this time justice will be served and that he gets his comeuppance the way it should be.
In the I Ching 25th hexagram is called Wu Wang. Wu Wang is translated differently by different authors. Truthfulness. Have no expectations. Be honest are some of the common translations. What the ancients understood by this hexagram was the notion that we should be without pretense and expectation when conducting our lives. We should live in accordance with the Way of Heaven and the rest will take care of itself. Radical acceptance of what is, is another way of putting it. Complaining and even exalting in certain outcomes, whether they be about accidents and sickness or sudden windfalls of good fortune will insert ego into the equation and when this happens we will be in for a bumpy ride sooner or later.
Be with what is. Furthermore, do the right thing, regardless of the outcome is another meaning. Our lives should benefit humanity. The things we do should help others, including our livelihood. If they did not, then we have steered off the path. And that will bring disgrace.
And, the ancients thought, this is very true for leaders. Leaders should lead with good conduct, act in accordance with the Way and be free of selfish motives, truely serve others by doing the right thing, not what will boost one's bank account.
Hmm you may be thinking. I don't know too many politicians who do that. Blago, unfortunately for him, is the one who just happened to get caught. Now he will go some where and have a lot of time to think about himself and how he got to where he is. The biblical adage is correct: It is easier for a camel to walk through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get to heaven.
